For Owl Media, saying goodbye to a longtime member is never easy. This semester, the staff says farewell to Luke Teigue, a dedicated journalist, photographer, and leader whose impact on the organization will be felt long after his departure.
Teigue joined Owl Media’s journalism staff in 2022 and quickly became an essential part of the team. His passion for storytelling, eye for photography, and commitment to excellence helped him rise to the position of student editor and eventually editor-in-chief. Throughout his time with Owl Media, he earned multiple awards for his photography and became known for consistently producing high-quality work.
Those who worked alongside Teigue often admired not only his technical skills but also his creativity and attention to detail. Guest speaker and media professional Faras Amir reflected on one of Luke’s strongest qualities.
“I think my favorite quality of Luke was always his attention to detail during and after shoots,” Amir said. “He knew the things that were in our production plan and shot list, but if he saw something worth capturing off script or some extra creative shots after we had wrapped up, he would just go for it. Those kinds of things sometimes end up being the highlight or key shot of a piece of content, so to have an eye for that is a really precious thing.”
That willingness to go beyond expectations helped make Teigue a standout contributor. Whether photographing campus events, covering stories, or creating visual content for Owl Media, he was always looking for opportunities to elevate a project and tell a stronger story.

Among his favorite memories at Owl Media were the many staff trips that allowed members to learn, network, and compete alongside other student media organizations. Teigue said his absolute favorite experience was celebrating Halloween on Bourbon Street in New Orleans during the fall of 2024. The trip was especially memorable because Owl Media brought home six awards, marking the beginning of what would become a string of Pinnacle Award successes for the organization.
When reflecting on what Owl Media meant to him, Teigue emphasized the opportunities it provides students with different interests and career goals.
“The beauty of it is that everybody can take a different pathway,” he said. “Everybody can go do something different and succeed because we just offer so many things here, whether that be design, photography, video, writing. It is something for everybody.”

Throughout his years with the organization, Teigue became an example of that versatility. He explored multiple forms of media while helping others develop their own skills. As editor-in-chief, he encouraged collaboration and helped create an environment where students could learn from one another. Looking back on his time with Owl Media, Teigue said the sense of teamwork is what he will miss most.
“You know, when I was here the other day for the meeting that we had, it was a nice reminder after a semester where I haven’t been widely available because of this new job,” he said. “It was a good reminder of the collaboration that we share as a staff. You’re guaranteed to have minds that think alike and share common interests and have a common goal whenever you come here.”
Many of Teigue’s favorite moments came during field assignments and travel experiences with fellow staff members. Amir recalled one particularly memorable experience during a trip to Ocean City.
“Things were pretty hectic, but Luke performed so well in the run-and-gun style as usual,” Amir said. “A funny moment was seeing him and a few students almost interrupt an entire beach wedding ceremony trying to get a shot of b-roll. The photographer from the other shoot ended up being really nice and laughing it off.”

Known for his eye behind the camera, Luke prepares for another shoot alongside the Owl Media staff in Ocean City.
Stories like these highlight the adventurous spirit and dedication that Teigue brought to every assignment. Whether working under pressure, chasing the perfect shot, or helping teammates succeed, he consistently demonstrated professionalism and enthusiasm.
“It’s a bit of a bittersweet moment to leave. You know it’s been a blast, it’s been fun. I’ve enjoyed my time here. Claudia was a major instrumental factor in my success, and I will be using what I’ve learned here in the future. Whether that just be for a job someday, for my own personal enjoyment.”
As he moves on to new opportunities, Teigue remains grateful for the experiences and mentorship he received during his time with Owl Media. He specifically credited professor Claudia for playing an important role in his growth and success.

While Teigue may be stepping away from Owl Media, the lessons he learned, the friendships he built, and the contributions he made will continue to leave a lasting impact on the organization. His leadership, creativity, and commitment to storytelling helped shape Owl Media during an important period of growth.
