Thousands travelled to Washington, D.C. on Inauguration Day to attend the ceremony at Capital One Arena, but many were turned away at the door due to capacity restrictions.

Secret Service, Metropolitan Police, and the National Guard lined the streets surrounding the Capitol. Several metro stations were also closed as a safety precaution.

Military equipment, vehicles, and personnel replaced the otherwise bustling areas of the city, which remained mostly empty due to the event and frigid temperatures.

Barricades stretched for miles beyond the Capital One Arena, and various groups of protesters took the opportunity to share their message to those passing through.

Security fencing was deployed throughout the otherwise empty city, and these wooden pallets were left directly outside Judiciary Square Metro Station.

One bystander gave fist bumps to members of the Proud Boys, a far-right militant group, as they marched through the Capitol area towards Union Station Plaza.

National Guard troops and Metropolitan Police also maintained a heavy presence on several Metro platforms in the area.

Although thousands were grouped together closer to the location of the event, most of the line barricades remained scarcely populated, like this section that ran through Chinatown.
