Meet Owl Media staff member, Nicholas Ramos!

As one of the newest members of the Owl Media staff at Harford Community College, Nicholas Ramos has received the opportunity to partake in something he has been passionate about since his childhood: writing.

Ramos’ earliest memory of being interested in writing takes places after completing an assignment in elementary school and winning an award for it. The people around Ramos quickly realized his knack for writing and with the encouragement of his parents, he continued to write short stories throughout his childhood.

“In elementary school we were tasked to do writing for the Patriot Program, and I remember winning an award for it, and my parents were like ‘you should try writing’.”

Throughout the rest of his education his preference for writing has followed him. After graduating high school, Ramos attended Virginia Tech as a Multimedia Journalism major prior to his time at HCC. Having been unable to take any multimedia journalism courses during his time there, he was excited to discover the multimedia journalism course offered at HCC.

“I do have a passion for writing, and I would eventually like to write for something bigger.”

“I found that they had this class here, and I registered late, but I was like ‘Oh my God this class is like perfect for my major,’ and I am hoping to be able to gain everything that I wasn’t able to at my last school here.”

Now at HCC, Ramos is building upon his writing abilities by becoming a member of the Owl Media staff and plans to continue doing so after graduating this winter.

“I do have a passion for writing, and I would eventually like to write for something bigger.”

Ramos’ gift of writing has followed him throughout his life and has now led him to become a part of the Owl Media staff, but his journey in writing is far from over. Wherever life takes him, one thing is definite; it will involve writing.
