Finding your path in life is often a daunting task for most people. That sense of purpose can lead you down paths that you would never think of taking. Opening up doors of opportunity one would never have thought were possible. This is where Owl Media’s work study student, Ises Webb comes in. Harnessing her writing skills through writing short captions in the high school yearbook club, she searched long and far to see where her newly found skillsets will take her.

First joining Owl Media through the work study program, Webb focused on selling herself with the ability to garner an audience through her kind and welcoming personality. Years of experience on social media and the yearbook club giving her an edge on the competition.

“I was in yearbook club for high school, and that is about it,” Webb explains. “But that is where I learned my editing skills, my writing skills, my captions, [and] photo series skills. So, I would say that like also played a part in how I do work now.”

Since she began working with Owl Media, her experience here has helped her build a new level of confidence. She learned to push herself out of that comfort zone from conducting live interviews and developing creative captions for social media posts that would help captivate her new audience.

“Branch out [with] your creativity; it’s so worth it.”

“But I feel like working with Owl Media,” she describes. “It will definitely help me reach out my sources a lot more and branch out of this shy, introverted person, and just like overall expand on like growth and my language and how I talk and how I present myself to other people.”

Not only has Owl Media given her new insight on her confidence, but it’s also made her realize her newfound love for teaching. Since her time working here, she’s been considering on changing her major from being a nursing social worker, to working with children.

To conclude this staff spotlight, we asked her if she had any final thoughts that she would like to give to the audience and future Owl staff members.

“Branch out [with] your creativity; it’s so worth it,” She states. “Even if you do it just for a couple of months or even if you’re at a certain place at a certain time. Just do it so you have the experience.”
