Owl Media, the student multimedia publication of Harford Community College formerly known as Owl Magazine, has been recognized as finalists for six categories in the 2023-24 Pinnacle Awards sponsored by the College Media Association.

Student media publications from across the country entered the competition, and winners will be announced at the ACP/CMA National College Media Convention in New Orleans from October 30th-November 2nd.

Owl Media made it to the final round for the following categories:

Best Video Newscast/ Division III and Two Year-Colleges for “The Effects of Transgender Legislation” with reporting by Isabella Toppi, voiceover and video editing by Brendan Flanagan, and videography by Remi Yeung. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2BGjOgQNr0&t=1s)

Owl Staffer, Michah Foster worked behind the cameras as a reporter and videographer during the video “Celebrating Wayne Hepler: 27 Years at HCC.”

TV Station of the Year/ Division III and Two-Year Colleges for three different videos:

Owl Staffer, Jeremiah Jackson, worked behind the scenes for many projects in the fall and spring semester, including the “Voices of Strength: Survivors Speak Out Against Sexual Assault” videos.

The fall 2023 student staff was led by Chief Advisor Brianna Skrivanek, Technical Advisor and Editor-in-Chief Brendan Flanagan, and Content Advisor Steph Perkins.

The spring 2024 student staff was led by Chief Advisor Brianna Skrivanek, Technical and Chief Advisor Brendan Flanagan, Editor-in-Chief Luke Teigue, and Content Advisor Steph Perkins.

Professor Claudia Brown also acted as an advisor during the Summer 2023 and Winter 2024 semesters.

Owl Media released print magazines from 2011-2020, has been publishing videos on YouTube and Facebook since 2014, and launched a website in late 2022. The publication has won 43 national awards since 2012.
