Meet Journalism Club President, Summer Grace.

Future Journalism major and Journalism Club President Summer Grace is always working towards sharpening her skills in the field.

“I joined last semester just because I do love Journalism so much and I took a lot of journalism classes in high school,” Grace stated. “I knew from then that I wanted to pursue journalism as a career.”

Her love and passion for journalism started when she was little. She had a strong sense of justice and morality. It also came from her aunt and uncle who would constantly encourage her to speak her mind.

“That advice has stuck with me, and journalism gives me the platform to speak my mind and speak up.”

Unfortunately, Grace was unable to major in journalism due to the credits not transferring, so she had to major under general studies for when she graduates and moves to a four-year college. However, she is taking as many journalism classes as possible and is still planning a career in journalism.

“I just wanted to be better rounded and have more experiences and opportunities to go out and do interviews and events.”

Grace is also looking for the best opportunities to help her become a journalist in the future.

“I was excited for the opportunity and to be challenged because I have had experience in graphic design, the newspaper, social media, and writing,” Grace stated. “I just wanted to be better rounded and have more experiences and opportunities to go out and do interviews and events.”

Grace is only in her second semester at HCC, but she has already done so much for Owl Media. She’s part of the journalism club and is the club’s president. Although she is not majoring in journalism, she will be continuing to work with Owl Media next semester.

“I will definitely come back next semester, and maybe I’ll run for reelection for president next semester.” Grace stated.

Look forward to more content from Grace and the rest of the Owl Media staff!
