Meet Owl Staffer Courtney Lebrun

HCC student Courtney Lebrun has dreamt of becoming a nurse ever since she was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2017 at the age of 12. Her diagnosis led to frequent visits at the doctors office, and having to spend a few weeks in the hospital.

“There were a lot of really nice nurses that helped me through everything,” Lebrun explains. One nurse in particular made such an impact on her, that she decided she wanted to become one herself.

“She was so nice, it made me think I want to do that too,” she explains.

Lebrun hopes to be a pediatric nurse and, “help kids that are struggling when they’re younger and help them through that.”

“I’m so used to English writing that coming into journalistic writing is just going to take some practice to change my mindset.”

Although she wants to become a nurse in the future, Lebrun’s love for writing was what drew her to Journalism.

“I’ve always really liked writing which brought me to journalism,” she says.

Last semester, she took her first journalism class; Intro to Journalism. “I’m so used to English writing that coming into journalistic writing is just going to take some practice to change my mindset,” Lebrun explains.

Throughout her life, Lebrun has always taken honors and AP English classes. She likes that they have more creative writing to them, which is the part of English she prefers. Because of this, she hopes to pursue either copy writer or copy editor positions on HCC magazine Owl Media’s staff and going into the semester, is excited to see her peers’ perspectives.

This semester, she’s excited to learn more about the process of creating and posting on Owl Media’s social media. Look forward to more content from Lebrun and the rest of the Owl Staff!
