“Mix it up/have fun
Be yourself! Don’t be afraid to try different poses or silly faces“
Picture this: a good hair day, a great outfit, and the perfect photo opportunity. Every day, people everywhere are inspired to snap a selfie. Unfortunately, once the picture has been taken, the image that is produced does not at all reflect what was imagined.
Maybe the lighting was unflattering, it was a poor angle, or the picture just didn’t come out quite right.
Owl Magazine’s former photographer, John Morin, was able to give us a couple of tips to get a great selfie.
Morin works as a photographer at The Whakatane Beacon in New Zealand. He has a conceptual photo series called Liminal, consisting of portraits.
Try the following tips the next time a selfie mood strikes to achieve the best photo possible.
1.Know your angles
Tilt your head in different directions. You can always experiment to find out what works best for you.
2.Find flattering, even light
Avoid harsh direct light or unflattering shadows. Soft, natural lighting works best.
3.Mix it up/have fun
Be yourself! Don’t be afraid to try different poses or silly faces
4.Don’t overdo it with filters
Using less filters can help the photo look more natural.
1 to 2 simple edits can help enhance features and the overall photo.
5.Plain background
A less distracting background help bring focus to the selfie
6. Experiment with different settings to see which edits work best for you
Brightness, Contrast, and Sharpness are just a few of the settings you can play around with.
